Bizz Loc grew up on Eglinton Ave., also known as EgWest, in Toronto’s Westend, a largely industrial but residential section of the city, that while being known as a cultural hub for the West Indian and black community as a whole, is also notorious for poverty, drugs, gangs and the violence that is so often associated with these social factors. Having come up in this environment, a sector that since 2008 has ranked 2nd in homicides and frequents the top 3 in this category, Bizz was naturally drawn to the streets at a young age, with “positive” male role models being scarce, he was easily influenced by the older drug dealers and gang members in the area.
By his early teens, he began losing many of his closest childhood friends to violence, and started serving various stints in juvenile detention, at 18 when most are graduating high school and deciding on post secondary education, he was hit with a 9 year sentence. While incarcerated, to pass the time, he began to put his experiences on paper, influenced by the likes of The Lox, Mobb Deep, Nas, Onyx, Uncle Murda and 2Pac, his raw, unadulterated style, and signature voice, gaining him notoriety throughout the prison system for his ability to share a first hand perspective on street life in the inner city.
Having started rapping in 2004 mostly for fun, he was released after serving 6 years, and began to take music more seriously, partnering up with G-Chile, his OG and longtime friend from his block to form Real Recognize Real Records. The subsequently released “Hype” and “Look at me” remixes, garnered more attention with each video dropped, but it wasn’t until the debut of “ErrrGod” that people really began to take notice that there was a new voice of the streets that needed to be heard, and after the follow up “Darkside” and “Set Trippin remix” videos, Bizz has earned himself the title as one of the viable “next ups” coming out of Toronto.
With his charismatic personality, slick wordplay and trademark “Errr!!”, he’s quickly becoming one of the go to artists for features and collaborations, and with more upcoming releases, including his presently untitled debut EP, Bizz Loc looks to bring the streets of his hometown to the masses through his music, and solidify Triple R as a force to be reckoned with in the industry, now and for years to come.
